Tony is the chief executive of Stevenson Engineering, where he has overall responsibility for Stevenson Engineering and around 250 staff dispersed around the country.

In the two years he’s been with us as chief executive, Tony has grown Stevenson Engineering’s by ten percent. The fact that it all happened in the middle of an economic downturn just makes it even more impressive.

He credits this to our wide range of facilities and skills, as it means we have been able to diversify into areas such as underground mining and marine work.

“We have a lot more opportunities available to us, being a facility of this size. We have over a hundred skilled technicians and we’ve been able to expand into areas where other companies can’t.”

Tony refers to the Stevenson Engineering workshop as “one of Auckland’s best kept secrets”, and says his favourite part of the job is going around the workshop and checking out what everyone is working on.

“I’m not a very hands-on, practical person myself, so I’m in awe of the work the guys do, how they can turn their hand to so many different things, so many different issues and challenges.”

As Stevenson Engineering operates from a few locations around New Zealand, Tony is often out of the office working with different managers and supervisors to ensure that our customers’ needs are met.

In his role as CEO, he’s also had the opportunity to work closely with the New Zealand Fire Service and regularly donates the complimentary All Blacks test match tickets to volunteer firemen.

“They’re the unsung heroes, the volunteers, and it’s great to be able to recognise the good work they do for the community, to give back to the volunteers in a small way.”
