John is the technical services manager for Stevenson Engineering workshop
where he has overall responsibility for quality assurance, attaining excellence in health and safety, and looking after the environment.
He also helps customers with their payment queries.
In the 20 years he’s been with us, John has put on many different hats, from working out payment schedules for customers and monitoring our quality assurance accreditation, to managing our health and safety procedures and coming up with new ways to make our workshop more environmentally friendly.
John is the one who looks after our ISO 9001 quality assurance accreditation, as well as our health and safety standards and our Enviro-Mark®NZ certification. His dedication to the job is clear when he talks about the steps the team takes to maintain a high standard of work.
“We pride ourselves on doing everything right first time – it’s our philosophy when it comes to quality assurance. We have procedures, check sheets and inspection sheets for each and every one of our jobs. And when each job is complete, we review our systems to see what we did and where we can improve.”
He also makes sure that everyone is up to scratch when it comes to health and safety, by promoting staff awareness through regular toolbox meetings and monthly management discussions with the supervisors.
Another one of his passions is turning our workshop into a more environmentally responsible place. He has had a big influence in bringing about our success in achieving Enviro-Mark®NZ Diamond status.
“We believe we have a responsibility to the wider community and to the next generation. It sets us apart from other companies, as we are the only engineering workshop of this type that has gained Enviro-Mark®NZ Diamond certification.”
John is currently working on a system to harvest the rainwater off the roof of our workshop, and then using the recycled water in our steam cleaning facility and toilets.
