David is an apprentice diesel technician at our East Tamaki workshop

As a kid who always loved watching earthmoving equipment operate, David thought, why not make it into a career? So he approached us for an apprenticeship as a heavy diesel technician and he’s now been with us for over a year and a half.

It’s a job where everyday is different and there’s a never-ending variety of machines to work on, and he’s always learning something new.

It’s a great place to be an apprentice, he says, because everyone is so eager to share and pass on what they know.

“Everyone looks after each other, everyone gets along. You only have to ask if you don’t know something, and people are always willing to help. There are so many people here that can teach you so many things, because there is such a depth of skills in one place.”

He believes that the strong work ethic and culture at Stevenson Engineering is the key to our success.

“We don’t take any shortcuts, everything gets done right from the start. If there’s a problem, we pull it apart, strip it, repair it the proper way, then put it back together properly as well, so it meets the customer’s expectations.”
