Andrew is the machine shop supervisor at Stevenson Engineering,

where he manages a team of eight on various machines

In his three and a half years as supervisor, Andrew and his team have worked a wide range of maintenance and repair work for heavy construction plant, production machinery and more.

The challenges he faces from the wide variety of work here keeps him on his toes, and has taught him a lot on the job.

“Most people don’t realise the specifications we have to work to. For example, when you deal with certain materials, you have to watch how you machine them and you have to know how to keep them at the right temperature so they don’t expand too much.”

“There are a lot of things to look out for, and it all comes back to your experience. You learn how to do it right first time.”

And it’s experience like this, the wide skill base and the huge range of work we undertake that keeps the customers coming back to Stevenson Engineering, he says.

“It’s a one-stop-shop. Somebody can bring a machine or a component in and it can be done from start to finish. It makes it easy for them, they don’t have to outsource to a lot of companies. It’s one place, one phone call.”
